Castleford Tigers have appointed Daryl Powell as their new Head Coach after agreeing a deal for his release from Featherstone Rovers.

New Castleford coach Daryl Powell believes he can help the Tigers claw their way into Super League's top eight.

Cup success

Powell, who previously coached in the top flight with Leeds Rhinos, got a chance to see Castleford close up last season - his Featherstone side knocked their local rivals out of the Challenge Cup. "I've been coaching a part-time team for the last four years," he added. "Our (Feathertone's) last four games against Super League opposition had seen us beat Castleford and nearly beat them in a pre-season friendly, then we were very close to beating London the other week, when we were 4-0 up at half-time, and then we did great against Wigan. "I feel as if I have proved myself for a fair while from a coaching perspective in different scenarios, at Leeds, at Featherstone and in rugby union as well. "I think if you speak to the players I've worked with they have had an enjoyable experience. The key is to helping them get better - I hope I can do that here." Powell's first game in charge sees Castleford travel to Perpignan to take on Catalans Dragons on Saturday.
