Sydney Roosters insist they have the strength and depth to cope without Luke O'Donnell if they miss out on landing the Huddersfield Giants forward.

The NRL club are keen to bring the 32-year-old back to Australia, although the Giants have rejected the Roosters' offer of a player-swap.

Fringe second-rower Tom Symonds was thought to be one of the players offered in exchange but managing director Richard Thewlis says Huddersfield were not interested.

Sydney have not pulled the plug completely on landing O'Donnell despite the Giants refusing to release the ex-North Queensland Cowboys man.

"If he's not available, it's not a major issue for us," Roosters chief executive Brian Canavan told the Canberra Times. "We're confident in our depth in the back row.

"If the player and manager decide he'll come back, we'll take it from there. If Luke and his current club say he is to remain in England, we move on from this."
