Shaun Wane: Angry at pre-season loss

Head coach Shaun Wane hits out at his young Wigan Warriors following their pre-season defeat to Hull KR.

The Warriors succumbed to a 32-10 loss in their second warm-up fixture ahead of the upcoming Super League season.

And Wane was left fuming after the game, telling the club's official website: "Sunday was not acceptable the way we played. The first 20 minutes against a strong Hull KR team we performed really well and then we started to make a couple of errors.

"I expect us to defend better and we didn't. I gave the players some words at half time on making sure we smarten our plays and we did slightly, overall I was a bit disappointed."

It wasn't all bad news for Wane as he singled out Logan Tomkins and Sam Powell as having impressed.

"Logan Tomkins did okay as did Sam at half-back," he added.

"Paul Prescott played for half-an-hour and did okay and he will get another opportunity on Thursday.

"I wasn't surprised with the result yesterday against Hull KR's best team but our standards are high and the excuse we had a young side does not wash with me."
