Widnes Vikings will be without star centre Stefan Marsh for the start of the Super League season.
Marsh sustained a rib cartilage injury during a friendly against Workington Town. The centre who recently signed a new deal for the club suffered the injury during the first half and didn't return to the field for the second period with Widnes leading 16-0 comfortably.
Vikings boss Denis Betts told the club's official website: "Stef Marsh has popped a rib cartilage which will be four or five weeks out for him but that's why you have a squad and we have Phelpsy (Cameron Phelps), Willy Isa and Chris Dean. It's one of those things for Stef but he'll be back."
The injury didn't have an impact on the results with visitors Widnes cruising to a 30-6 win at the Stobart Stadium.
The Vikings started strongly with three tries in 17 minutes from Danny Craven, Chris Dean and Joe Mellor.
Workington provided a strong physical challenge but three more tries after the break from Eamon O'Carroll, Isa and Dec Hulme secured a comfortable win. The home team did score a deserved solitary try from Jack Gaskell
