Brian McDermott: Has been impressed by Joe Vickery
Leeds coach Brian McDermott claims Joe Vickery has put himself in a good position to secure a permanent deal with the Super League champions.
The 23-year-old Australian is currently on trial at the Rhinos having seen a proposed move to Hull FC last season fall through.
And Vickery, who scored 17 times last season for Gold Coast Titans' feeder club Tweed Heads, caught the eye with two tries for Leeds in the 40-26 Boxing Day victory over Wakefield.
Vickery started the match on the wing before moving to full-back in a makeshift Leeds team.
"That's put him in a strong position," said McDermott.
"You can't be signing blokes on how they train but he has done everything asked of him so we were leaning that way anyway.
"That's now put him in good shape for when the decision comes."
