Wakefield's new Australian signing Justin Poore has revealed he would be open to representing England.

The 27-year-old prop was born in Australia but qualifies for Steve McNamara's team as his dad was born in Southampton.

Poore was presented by the Wildcats on Tuesday and the former Parramatta Eels and St George Illawarra Dragons player has not closed the door on making the controversial switch.

"I would play for England. I think it'd be a bit weird but if you're eligible then why not?"

"I would play for England," he said in the Wakefield Express. "I think it'd be a bit weird but if you're eligible then why not?

"I'd dedicate it to my dad, because to see how proud he was for me to actually come here made me feel good about myself.

"I'd do it, but I basically came here to play good for Wakefield so that stuff I haven't really thought about."

Injury blow for Wilkes

Meanwhile, team-mate Oliver Wilkes has suffered a broken thumb in pre-season training and is set to miss up to six weeks.

The injury will rule Wilkes out of their Boxing Day clash against champions Leeds Rhinos, a fixture Kyle Amor is also expected to miss.

"Oliver Wilkes broke his thumb in a contact session last week," said head coach Richard Agar.

"We were a little bit worried about it in that it was a six to eight week injury but they [the physios] have said it will be six weeks maximum.

"He has had it screwed and plated but we're expecting him back in full training when we go to camp in the first week in January and he should be available for all our trail games [after the Leeds match]."
