Gareth Ellis is relishing the challenge of making Hull FC a Super League force again after turning down the chance to re-join Leeds.

The 31-year-old England international opted to signed a three-year deal with the Black and Whites six months ago, rejecting overtures from elsewhere in the process.

Ellis' signature was highly sought after and the ex-Rhinos man believes it would have been an easy option for him to return to Headingley, where he spent three seasons.

The former Wests Tigers back-rower helped Leeds to Grand Final glory in 2008, but rather than re-join the champions he wanted to take up a fresh challenge.

"Part of the attraction of coming to Hull is the chance to make this club a force again," he told the Hull Daily Mail.

"It would have been so easy for me to go back to Leeds, slot straight back in, and probably hang my bag on the same peg too.

"But I felt for me to progress and step up my game again I needed another challenge and to step out of my comfort zone again.

"Having spoken to the people at the club I was excited. It is a massive challenge to get this club back up there, but I'm up for that challenge and am confident we can make it."
