St Helens trio Paul Wellens, Francis Meli and Paul Clough have all signed new contracts with the Super League club.

Captain Wellens and winger Meli have penned one-year deals while utility forward Clough is tied to Saints for another three years.

Wellens, 32, has made 433 appearances for the club, Meli has scored 126 tries since making his debut in 2006 while Clough has appeared 169 times.

Chairman Eamonn McManus believes the timing of the deals is ideal ahead of Saturday's trip to the Halliwell Jones Stadium to face Warrington in the first round of the play-offs.

"Paul Wellens is playing as well as ever and is the ultimate ambassador for the club."

Settled

"It's great to go into the play offs with three key signings for next year settled," McManus told the club's official website.

"Paul Wellens is playing as well as ever and is the ultimate ambassador for the club.

"Likewise, Francis Meli is on top of his game and provides real experience in an otherwise youthful backline.

"Paul Clough is a real Trojan and it's good to sign him through to his Testimonial season in 2014/15."
