Brett Ferres: Delighted to have joined the Giants last week

Sky Bet

Huddersfield Giants' new signing Brett Ferres jumped at the chance to sign for the club from the Castleford Tigers prior to last Friday's transfer deadline.

The ex-Bradford and Wakefield man joined the Giants on a three-and-a-half year contract just before this week's window closed

Ferres was not given an immediate debut in Sunday's clash against the Wildcats as Huddersfield slipped to a 35-14 defeat at the Galpharm Stadium.

"The opportunity came up and I couldn't wait to grab it with both hands really."
Brett Ferres Quotes of the week

The 26-year-old could not turn down the opportunity to join the Giants and he has thanked Castleford for allowing him to leave prior to the expiration of his contract.

Delighted

"I'm obviously delighted to have got the deal signed for the Giants before the Friday deadline," he told the club's official website.

"The opportunity came up and I couldn't wait to grab it with both hands really. I'm very grateful that Castleford let me go early and I'm really grateful that Huddersfield took me on.

"It's been really good here so far. The main thing I've realised is how professional the club is and where we want to go as a club and working forward. It's really exciting."

Competition

Ferres faces stiff competition from the likes of Jason Chan, Michael Lawrence, Luke O'Donnell, David Faiumu, Dale Ferguson and Jacob Fairbank to start and he know he will need to fight for his place.

"First and foremost I've got to get in the team. Obviously once I get in there, I want to perform consistently week-in, week-out and try to keep my spot," he continued.

"One of the main reasons was ambition in signing for the Giants. I want to be the best player I possibly can be, and coming to a set up like this is only going to enhance my career and push me forward. Playing with some great players every week is going to do me some favours.

"I've heard a lot of good things about Paul Anderson. In my short space of time here it's been really good and I'm just looking forward to getting out on the pitch really and trying to impress the Giants fans.

"Probably in the last couple of years I've turned into a bit of a utility man. I'm predominantly a back-rower/loose-forward so I'm hoping to get my opportunity there."
