Diskin shouldered out

Matt Diskin will miss the rest of the season after being told he needs immediate surgery on a shoulder injury.

Former Leeds Rhino had missed just one game this season

Bradford will be without Matt Diskin for the rest of the season after the hooker was told he needs immediate surgery on a shoulder injury. Diskin has only missed one game for the Bulls in 2011 after joining the club from Yorkshire rivals Leeds Rhinos on a three-year contract. But, having played through the pain in recent weeks, the 29-year-old will now go under the knife on Friday, meaning he will be fit to resume pre-season training with the rest of his team-mates in November. "Matt's been carrying the injury for the past ten weeks but it's got to the stage now where the pain is becoming too much and an operation is the only course of action," Bradford coach Mick Potter said. "I commend Matt's bravery in wanting to play on as long as possible whilst in a lot of discomfort but that's the measure of him as a man and a team mate." With Heath L'Estrange also sidelined with ruptured knee ligaments, Potter could give further first-team opportunities to teenager Adam O'Brien, who made his Super League debut against Huddersfield back in March.
