England prop forward Sam Burgess is not expected to be sidelined for a long period despite initial fears he had suffered a broken ankle in South Sydney's 36-24 defeat to Canterbury.
A distressed Burgess had to be carried from the field after 63 minutes of the NRL match at ANZ Stadium in Sydney.
The former Bradford Bulls man will undergo scans on the injury this week but coach John Lang was confident he had not suffered a break.
"I don't think there's any worries about that (a broken ankle)," he said at the post-match press conference.
"It's his ankle. He'll certainly be out next week.
"It will be assessed properly and we see how he goes from there."
