England forward Sam Burgess will not need surgery after dislocating his left shoulder against Papua New Guinea in Auckland on Saturday.
The 21-year-old suffered the injury during the first-half of the contest at Eden Park and there were fears that the problem could lead to a lengthy lay-off.
However, scans on Monday have shown no major damage and the former Bradford Bulls player should be able to start training again at the beginning of January.
Burgess will therefore be able to begin pre-season training with his NRL side South Sydney Rabbitohs in the New Year.
