The 24-year-old forward will follow outgoing coach Mick Potter to Bradford after the all-important clash with Wigan and is hoping to bow out in style.

Having been on the losing side in each of the last three Grand Finals, Hargreaves is still chasing a first Super League ring.

"I've won every other medal in the game - World Club Challenge, Challenge Cup - but I've still not got a Grand Final medal and that's something I've got a massive bee in my bonnet about," he said.

Hargreaves has remained mainly under the radar during his time at Knowsley Road and much of the attention on Saturday will be focused on captain Keiron Cunningham's farewell.

Regular

But he has missed only seven matches in the last three seasons and his first-half brace of tries against Huddersfield last Friday helped Saints secure a 42-22 win in the semi-final.

Hargreaves will also be facing his former club, as he came through the Wigan Academy before making a first appearance for his home-town club in 2004.

He added: "It would be a fitting end to my time at St Helens, especially against Wigan. It means that bit more to me. It's a massive game."

The Warriors went through one of the low points of their history when Hargreaves was at the club, almost being relegated in 2006 - the same season the prop was offloaded to St Helens.

Strange

"It was a strange time. They were going through a transitional period and had a devastating injury list," Hargreaves said.

"I was 18, 19 and playing starting front row so there was lot of pressure but it made me a better player in hindsight. At the time it was too much too soon but that only makes you stronger.

"I look back with mixed feelings. We were going through a bad patch but there was also good times and I've still fond memories and friends there.

"I played alongside Joel Tomkins, Paul Prescott and Harrison Hansen in Academy and Under-21 Grand Finals and it's going to be strange playing against them in a Super League Grand Final but that's rugby league. It's going to be a good challenge."
