New Wigan coach Michael Maguire celebrated a notable triumph in his first match in charge as the Warriors fought back from a 14-point deficit to win 40-38 in a pre-season clash at Wakefield.
Wakefield, who stormed into an early 12-0 lead, looked to have the match wrapped up after posting eight tries in the first 60 minutes, although Danny Brough managed only three conversions.
The home side were 22-18 ahead at half-time thanks to two tries from Dale Morton, as well as individual touchdowns from Sean Gleeson, Glenn Morrison and Daryl Millard and a solitary goal from Brough.
Gleeson completed a double in the second half and Aaron Murphy and Kevin Henderson also crossed the line as the Wildcats opened up a 14-point advantage.
The visitors responded strongly, however, Darrell Goulding scoring two tries and fellow centre George Carmont also touching down in a late surge, with Cameron Phelps adding two conversions.
Wigan's earlier try-scorers were Sean O'Loughlin, Mark Riddell, Eamon O'Carroll and Pat Richards, who also kicked four goals.
New Warriors scrum-half signing Paul Deacon was absent from the clash due to a wrist injury.
