Paul Wellens insists St Helens head into Saturday's Grand Final in far better physical shape than they were in last year.
The St Helens full-back played in Saints' shock 33-6 defeat to the Rhinos in the 2007 Super League showpiece and is confident the minor premiers can avenge that result in the re-match on Saturday.
"The guys are just as hungry as ever for success," the Great Britain international told
Sky Sports News. "We are in a lot better shape physically than we were 12 months ago, which is the pleasing thing.
"The guys are feeling a lot fresher than they did last year coming into this game, so hopefully that will stand us in good stead on Saturday evening.
"But regardless of the way we are feeling, we still have to perform well. Performance is key and that is what we are concentrating on."
Magic
Just as they did last year, St Helens head for Old Trafford as hot favourites to complete a treble of domestic trophies. But Rob Burrow reckons that matters not a jot once the teams cross the whitewash.
"It is 80 minuters, it's a final, anything can happen," the Rhinos scrum-half told
Sky Sports News. "League form is irrelevant really, if you perform well out there."
And Burrow is desperate to enjoy a repeat of last year's success. "It was just magic last year," he added. "It was the performance we were looking for all year. It waited until the last game of the season and it would be nice if we could come up with that type of performance again."
As for the build-up to the big game, Burrow said: "It's what it is all about. You earn the right to play in finals. You earn all that excitement and the buzz around the week building up. It will be nice to get the same result as last year, but I think it will be a different game completely."
