Catalans Dragons have extended the contract of inspirational full-back Clint Greenshields for another three years.

Star full-back ends speculation by signing three-year deal

Catalans Dragons have extended the contract of full-back Clint Greenshields for another three years and revealed they are within days of announcing their new coach. The ever-present Greenshields has not missed a Super League game since joining the Perpignan club from St George Illawarra 18 months ago and has carved out a fine reputation as a freescoring full-back with 19 tries in 40 appearances. The 26-year-old has been pivotal in the Dragons' impressive start to the 2008 Super League campaign, and the announcement of his contract extension has quashed rumours that he would follow coach Mick Potter out of the Stade Gilbert Brutus at the end of the season. "I'm delighted to extend my contract for three more years," said Greenshields. "I'm very happy here. The club has grown every day since my arrival and I want to be a part of this adventure."

Potter delight

Potter, who is leaving the club in October to succeed Daniel Anderson at St Helens, said: "It's fantastic for the club. "Clint is one of the best Super League full-backs. He is the third player to extend his contract and others should follow him in the weeks to come." The Catalans are also close to securing a replacement for Potter, with a candidate almost certain to come from Australia. General manager Christophe Levy said: "We are proud to have gained the confidence of Clint and to keep a player of his calibre for three more years. "It's great news for the club and I think we'll be able to announce the name of the new coach in the next days."
