Kear delighted after persuading young star to commit to Wildcats

Wakefield's promising centre Ryan Atkins has signed a new three-year contract at Belle Vue. The 22-year-old has been a revelation since his move from Bradford two years ago and is being touted as an England candidate for the end-of-season World Cup in Australia. His fine performances have alerted other clubs to his talents, but he has now committed his future to the Wildcats until the end of the 2011 season. "Ryan Atkins has been looked at by so-called bigger clubs and therefore we're delighted to have him signed up," said football director and head coach John Kear. "This is a clear indication that Wakefield Wildcats are building a base of highly-talented, young British players who will take the club forward. "It sends the message out to the fans we fully intend to be part of Super League in the immediate future and in the long-term."
