The London Broncos staged a great comeback to beat Leeds 40-36 to end a run of 23 straight defeats

London Broncos coach Joe Grima has admitted that he was not expecting his side to come back and win after going 22 points behind against Leeds.

The Broncos registered their first Super League win of the season - at the 24th attempt - after a Joe Keyes hat-trick inspired a 40-36 victory at The Hive.

Keyes ran in a hat-trick, including two in the closing 10 minutes as an under-strength Leeds side, who had led 30-8, suffered a setback ahead of the Challenge Cup final next weekend.

There's a great atmosphere in the dressing room, although most of the players don't actually know the words to any victory songs.

"I know Leeds had players missing today but they still had a quality team out there, and to come back like that is hard to believe,” Grima said.

“Given the season we have had, to produce a performance like that takes some doing. If I'm totally honest, I am pretty emotional about it all.

The Rhinos appeared to have put the game to bed but tries from Kieran Dixon, Mike McMeeken, Scott Moore and Keyes made it a one-score game with 10 minutes left.

The comeback was completed when Keyes struck for his third try, having danced away from a host of Leeds tacklers on his way to the line.

Leeds coach Brian McDermott said: "I know people think we do not care about the league because of the Challenge Cup, but that is absolutely not true.

"In fact, if we miss out on top spot because of this game I will be very disappointed. There were individual errors out there today that are totally unacceptable - we did not play badly as a team, but there were too many mistakes from players.

"Credit to London, though - they did not go away and that says a lot after the long, hard season they have had."
