England star James Graham has been suspended for four matches on charges of dangerous contact and contrary conduct in the Canterbury Bulldogs' fiery defeat to South Sydney.

The Canterbury captain entered an early guilty plea after his enraged reaction to the referee's decision to award a match-deciding penalty over a tackle last Friday.

The National Rugby League also suspended team-mates David Klemmer for three matches and Sam Kasiano for two after both pleaded guilty to their charges stemming from the match.

Test forward Graham attempted a charge-down which left Souths scrum-half Adam Reynolds facing four months out with knee ligament damage.

The late penalty gave NRL champions South Sydney an 18-17 win after they trailed throughout the rematch of last year's grand final.

Klemmer was sin-binned for verbally abusing the referee over the same penalty.

Kasiano was charged with dangerous conduct, while a fourth Bulldog, hooker Michael Lichaa, escaped a ban for dissent with his early guilty plea.

Canterbury fans were incensed and some may face life bans for hurling water bottles at the officials as they left the field.

South Sydney prop George Burgess was hit with a dangerous contact charge from the same game and will miss a week.
