Wigan and Huddersfield have agreed one-year loan deals for forward duo Larne Patrick and Jack Hughes respectively.

Patrick will leave Yorkshire to spend the 2015 season with the Super League runners-up, with Hughes moving in the opposite direction.

Hughes, 22, has found game time harder to come by of late and sought to pep up his career, with Wigan saying his desire to do so met with Huddersfield's interest.

Wigan general manager Kris Radlinski said: "Jack has found first-team opportunities limited recently with Liam Farrell, John Bateman and Joel Tomkins all cementing their position in the back row.

I am delighted to join Wigan. This is an exciting new challenge and one I am relishing.

“As such he recently asked for more first-team rugby, at the same time as Huddersfield asked about his availability.

"We value Jack and feel he still has more to offer so would only consider the option of him leaving for a specified period in exchange for Larne, a player our coaching staff rate very highly."

Patrick has made 136 appearances for the Giants since returning from a spell in the Australian lower leagues with Narrabean Sharks.

"I am delighted to join Wigan," he said. "This is an exciting new challenge and one I am relishing.

“I have had a great time at Huddersfield and would sincerely like to thank coach Paul Anderson for the way he has helped me.

"I am hopeful that my development continues apace under Shaun Wane, another great British coach and someone I am excited to be working with."

Wales international Patrick has been on Wigan's wanted sheet for some time and Wane is pleased to have added the prop to his ranks, a position they need numbers in after the high-profile suspension of Ben Flower.

"Larne Patrick is a player I have admired for a long time,” said Wane. "He has always challenged us when we've faced the Giants and I am looking forward to him making an impact in the cherry and white shirt.

"He is tough with a great work ethic, but he also has good footwork and speed and will add more experience to our front row next year.

“He is also my kind of person, a real good guy off the field, and will fit in really well with our group."
