Luke Briscoe hopes to have an impact with the Leeds Rhinos next season as he comes towards the end of his contract.

The 20-year-old will be a free agent at the end of the 2015 campaign and he ended the year by helping the Hunslet Hawks to a Grand Final win and promotion.

Briscoe spent the last two months of the season with the Kingstone Press Championship One side and started at loose forward in their golden-point, extra-time win over Oldham on Sunday.

I've got another year left. I am not sure what the plan is yet, but hopefully it’ll be to crack into the first team and play regularly.

But, after a season in which he made a debut for three different teams (Wakefield, Leeds and Hunslet), he has set his sights on forcing his way into a more regular role with the Super League side.

“I've got another year left. I am not sure what the plan is yet, but hopefully it’ll be to crack into the first team and play regularly," Briscoe told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“I am going to enjoy this (the Grand Final win) with the lads, then I’ll be back in at Leeds in a month’s time for pre-season and hopefully I can crack on next year.

Regular action

“I’ve been at a few clubs already. I have been playing here and that’s what I needed to do.

“I needed to get the game time, I’ve cracked on and it’s been good to get to a final. It’s great for Hunslet to get to a final and to win it was even more special, especially at Headingley.”

Meanwhile, Hawks veteran David March is considering his future after captaining their Grand Final-winning side.

The 35-year-old began his career with Wakefield Trinity in 1997 and had a two-year stint at York City Knights before joining Hunslet in 2010.

He admitted he is finding it “tough” to play for a full 80 minutes, but is tempted by the prospect of another crack at the Championship.

“It will be tough in that league, but if you want to be the best you have to play against the best,” he said. “The Championship is where we want to be."
