Castleford have confirmed the signing of half-back Ben Roberts from Melbourne Storm on a two-year deal from the start of next season.

The 28-year-old, who has played more than 130 games in the NRL, also has an option to stay on for a third year at the end of his contract.

"I only signed at the Storm for one year, and we were not quite sure what I was going to do after this year, in terms of hanging around or possibly going overseas," said the Samoa and New Zealand international.

"I suggested to my manager that we should have a fish out and about, just to see what was out there.

"It just so happened that Castleford came in the picture, so I was trying to find out a bit of information about the club. I heard nothing but good things about the club, and they came from people who had played there in the past."

Delighted

Roberts, the cousin of Australia and former Everton midfielder Tim Cahill, was a target for Cas last year after leaving Parramatta Eels.

"I am delighted to sign Ben, who is a player we tried to sign last season before his move to Melbourne," said Tigers coach Daryl Powell.

"His qualities are ideally suited to Super League, with his strength, speed and agility a massive part of his game. His left-footed kicking game is another aspect that will dovetail neatly into the squad for next year.

"Ben has years of NRL experience, but I really believe his best form is in front of him."
