While Matterson accepts the standard of play in the States is not of the highest level, he believes the quality on offer is improving.

A number of players in Matterson's squad were not born in the USA, but they have been practicing the national anthem ahead of Wednesday's clash against the Cook Islands to ensure no one needs to mime.
