Sky Sports has won exclusive live rights to show Super League until the end of 2011.
A new three-year agreement with the Rugby Football League - for 2009, 2010 and 2011 - ensures Sky Sports will continue to broadcast exclusive live coverage of a league it has shown since inception in 1996.
It will give Sky Sports viewers more live games than ever before with over 100 matches a year. There will be exclusive live coverage of the Super League with up to 70 live matches per season including all Play Off matches and the Grand Final.
Sky Sports also have exclusive live coverage of the National League and its Cup competition bringing 29 live matches per season.
Furthermore, Sky Sports will show the World Club Challenge - the annual season curtain-raiser between the Australian NRL champions and reigning engage Super League champions exclusively live.
And at least two live international matches each season will also be televised exclusively live on Sky Sports.
The new deal will extend Sky's relationship with the game, which started at the launch of Sky Sports in 1991, into its 21st season. More than 1,200 games have now been shown across Sky's four dedicated sports channels.
Vic Wakeling, Managing Director of Sky Sports, said: "We believe the popularity of Super League will grow over the next few years, and we are delighted that this new deal gives us more live games than ever before.
"In the same way, our experiment of live coverage from the National League in the season just ended has been a successful one, which is why we have agreed to cover even more games from the National League and National Cup in the seasons ahead.
"To all this, we have added the World Club Challenge and internationals. It's a huge commitment and a major investment by Sky, but we think Rugby League - at all levels - is worth it."
Sky Sports presenter and commentator, Eddie Hemmings said: "It's been a privilege to be part of the growth of Rugby League in this country over the last 17 years. The Super League era has enabled the clubs to develop and we've seen some incredible matches in each of the last 12 seasons, this deal means we'll be able to bring viewers plenty more on Sky Sports."
Last season Sky Sports showed 116 live Rugby League matches, covering all levels of the game, including; the Varsity Match, National League, engage Super League, World Club Championship, the centenary series between Great Britain and New Zealand and World Cup Qualifiers.
All live Super League matches have also been shown in High Definition with Dolby 5.1 sound from the start of the 2007 season on Sky Sports HD.
