Leeds coach Brian McDermott was happy with the 24-22 win over Huddersfield on Thursday night but not overly impressed with his team’s performance.
The hosts raced into an 18-0 lead at Headingley but Huddersfield hit back to lead 24-22, only for Paul Aiton to cross seven minutes from time and secure victory for Leeds with his first try for the Rhinos.
McDermott said: “I'm happy we have won but I didn't think it was a great performance.
"There is not much from that game I want to take over into next week.
"I thought we should have had more of a hold on the game but you can't dismiss Huddersfield's resilience.
"Credit to them for coming from 18-0 down. Obviously, they've got a bit more about them than their league position shows.
"I don't want to be disrespectful to them but I thought in the second half Huddersfield were allowed to do certain things in the ruck which made the game frustrating to watch.
“It was a poor standard, with late flops and laying on in the tackle."
Huddersfield coach Paul Anderson believes it was a step in the right direction and is confident that his side will soon claim their first win of the campaign.
"I thought the effort and resilience were very good," he said. "With the hole we put ourselves in at 18-0, there was a decision to be made, and we decided to dig in and show some character and, more importantly, to show some patience.
"We finally got the tide to turn and showed we're a good football team. Scoring 24 points should have won us the game but we took some big strides today.
"It's not a win and I'm judged on winning but we can learn from it and I'm pretty confident we're starting to rock and roll a bit. We're going in the right direction."
