As the countdown to October's World Cup continues Australia registered a sixth successive Test victory against their Kiwi rivals.
New Zealand started the game on the front foot despite having a depleted squad with Benji Marshall, Sonny Bill Williams and Simon Mannering all injured while Jeremy Smith remains suspended.
The Kiwis thought they had scored three tries in a feisty first half only for the video referee to deny them all.
Although the points were not registered on the scoreboard New Zealand were in the ascendency and continued to dominate through to the interval.
Australia returned from the break determined and the points rush soon commences when Greg Inglis touched down his 20th Test try in the 51st minute.
New Zealand spirits dwindled in Canberra as the hosts established a 12-6 lead before Brett Morris, Luke Lewis and Darius Boyd all crossed the line in quick succession to seal victory.
Justin Hodges went on to score Australia's sixth try of the match to ensure the contest was well and truly over before the final whistle.
Forward Frank Pritchard mustered just enough strength to score a consolation four-pointer for New Zealand just before time as Australia triumphed on home territory.
Australia have not lost to their closest rivals since the 2010 Four Nations final in Brisbane.
