Super League: Bradford defeated Salford 36-24 on Easter Monday
Last Updated: 02/04/13 1:53pm
Bradford out-scored Salford by six tries to four but were arguably value for more than a 36-24 victory at Odsal on Easter Monday.
The City Reds trailed 24-6 at the break and although they briefly threatened a comeback the Bulls comfortably held on for their fifth win of the campaign.
Bradford began with intent and it came as no surprise when John Bateman dived onto a Jarrod Sammut grubber to give them the lead inside 10 minutes.
Salford struggled to make it out of their own half until Brett Kearney kept a Theo Fages 40-20 in play, but only succeeded in flicking the ball into the path of Lee Gaskell, who kicked on and crossed for his second try in a Reds shirt.
But it proved a minor blip for the hosts with Keith Lulia and Jamie Foster combining on the left to put Sammut over.
Only handling errors stopped them from increasing the lead, Adrian Purtell finally getting the third with four minutes remaining in the half before Kearney made up for his earlier mistake by adding a fourth.
Foster converted all four tries before limping off early in the second half, and it was Salford who came out fastest with two repeat sets setting up a Jack Murphy score in the corner.
Former Bull Chris Nero then charged over from close range and Marc Sneyd's third conversion left the visitors within a converted try of the opposition.
But Jamie Langley extended Bradford's lead on 55 minutes, converted by Sammut, before Fages kept the Reds in it by sending Andrew Dixon over at the other end.
But a 71st minute penalty from Sammut and a late try by the Bulls half-back finally clinched the points for his side.
