Super League: Wakefield run in five tries to inflict another defeat on London
Last Updated: 18/02/13 4:28pm
Wakefield Wildcats inflicted a third straight defeat on London Broncos with a comprehensive 28-0 victory at the Twickenham Stoop.
Ben Cockayne ran in two of the visitors' five tries while Paul Sykes kicked four goals in a one-sided affair.
The heavy defeat leaves the Londoners still searching for their first points of the season and only points difference keeping them off the foot of the table.
Cockayne, who grabbed three tries against Hull KR last weekend, crossed for a try in each half as the Wildcats dominated from the off.
The winger opened his account with just 50 seconds on the clock after taking a pass from Reece Lyne to cruise over the line.
Wakefield wasted opportunities to extend their lead, none more so than when Sykes struck the post with a close-range penalty after Alex Hurst had been penalised for retaliation.
However, it proved only to be a brief respite for London as Sykes finally nudged the Wildcats further ahead on 45 minutes when he booted a penalty.
That seemed to lift the visitors into another gear, and they added their second try shortly afterwards when Danny Kirmond profited from some weak Broncos tackling to stroll over.
On 58 minutes, a searing break from Ali Lauitiiti saw Cockayne on hand to cross in the corner for his second try of the match.
And soon after that, Peter Fox stormed over in the corner to put Wakefield 22-0 up before Richie Mathers ensured they had a fifth try to celebrate, racing through a huge gap to touch down on 75 minutes.
