Sinfield: scored a second-half try and kicked five goals
Leeds set up a tasty preliminary semi-final against Huddersfield in the Super League play-offs with a 42-10 victory over Hull at Headingley.
The Rhinos got the better of the Black and Whites for an 11th straight time to keep alive their hopes of another Grand Final appearance.
Kevin Sinfield was one of seven different try-scorers for the home side while the England international also booted seven goals, giving him a personal haul of 18 points.
The Black and Whites left themselves too much to do after an opening half that saw them concede 18 points without reply, meaning they follow city rivals Hull KR in falling at the first hurdle in the post season.
The heavy defeat was also a disappointing end to Richard Agar's tenure with the club, though the Wakefield-bound coach could have no complaints about the start his team made to the Sunday evening fixture.
It was the visitors who were fastest out of the blocks, forcing back-to-back sets of six inside the opening five minutes, only for Leeds to break the deadlock on their first real foray into enemy territory.
It seemed the opportunity had gone begging when Kylie Leuluai failed to use options on either side after bursting clear down the heart of the field, but Brent Webb's high kick out to the left corner led to Ryan Hall catching and throwing the ball back straight into the path of the grateful Jamie Jones-Buchanan.
Sinfield added the extras from out wide and a penalty from the Leeds skipper's trusty right boot made it 8-0 to the hosts after 16 minutes.
The video referee denied Danny Tickle a potential try as Hull continued to push hard, while careless handling errors put paid to more than one promising position.
Ben Jones-Bishop's 10th try of the season shortly after the half-hour mark put daylight between the two teams and when Webb accepted Ryan Bailey's superb offload to glide over to the left of the uprights, the Rhinos went in at the interval in complete charge.
A try from Richard Whiting two minutes into the second half did offer Hull hope, Jordan Turner's pass out the back door putting the winger in out wide.
Whiting's efforts in getting the ball down came at a price, though, as he was forced to leave the field with what appeared to be a shoulder injury.
While he slowly headed off to the away dressing room his team-mates were left in anguish themselves when two harsh penalty calls resulted in Weller Hauraki scored Leeds' fourth try.
Sinfield slotted over the easy kick and was also on target with the extras after he too touched down, the forward finishing off Brett Delaney's initial break.
Hull showed they still had some fighting spirit left when Epalahame Lauaki took offence to a challenge from Hauraki, though by that stage the Black and Whites were playing for nothing more than pride.
Danny McGuire notched his 200th try of his Leeds career as the points kept on coming, with Bailey even managing to get his name on the scoresheet. Sandwiched in between was an effort from winger Tom Briscoe in the left corner that offered Hull a scrap of comfort in a losing effort.
