Verdict

Hughie Morrison: "He's just been beaten in probably the most-competitive handicap of the year off a mark of 109, so that's Group form. You need a Group horse to compete in these sort of races, and considering he was giving 8lb to the winner it was a fantastic run. There was a Group winner in third and we were giving weight to him, too. He's got that great thing a turn of foot, and when you have that you can aim anywhere with a horse. He lost his way after we gelded him, and while he enjoyed the sun in Dubai, which helped him get over the gelding operation quicker, he didn't enjoy the life there."

Charlie Appleby: "I'm delighted with that, because neither of my horses were handicapped with a few pounds in hand for a race like this. I'm very happy with the way Steeler has come back from Dubai - Silvestre said he probably hit the front too soon, but there was nothing else that could take him any further and he had to make a move. He ended up doing a bit of donkey work in the end, but it was pleasing nonetheless. We'll probably put Steeler back up into Listed and Group Three company next."
