A decent bit of placing by the connections of the still unbeaten RED SHERLOCK who made an exemplary start to his hurdling career. His bumper form was boosted twice this week with victories from The Skyfarmer and Wadswick Court and his bubble has not yet burst. Main market rival Truckers Steel failed to pose any serious threat and he was simply far too strong for this opposition, pulling away in the straight. It was interesting to see the four year old introduced over this trip but this wouldn't be the most demanding circuit and, as a half-brother to the useful two mile winning hurdler Swing Bowler, he shouldn't lack the speed to be effective when dropped back to two miles as seems likely. A top price 20/1 for the Sky Bet Supreme Novices' Hurdle appears perfectly fair given both the high regard in which he's held and the level of form that he has shown thus far. There was a long way back to Canuspotit who may have benefited from being ridden with more restraint than those who tried to match strides with the winner but he should find his niche in handicaps. In similar vein, the run of Truckers Steel can be upgraded a touch and he should have little difficulty winning an average novice. Badger Wood disappointed but he appeared to have quite a hard race at Taunton and it's possible that this came too quickly for him; he can be given another chance and it looks well worth connections experimenting with a drop in trip.
