Mixed messages about the worth of this form, but Sire Collonges had looked a smart performer when scoring over course and distance at the October meeting and was simply no match for OUR FATHER from the second-last fence. If reputation counts for anything then the winner has always been considered a horse of considerable potential by connections, helping to explain why he was sent off favourite for the Pertemps Final at last season's Festival despite looking to have plenty to prove on the formbook. He showed little sparkle in that race and again at Aintree's Grand National meeting, but bounced back in style here, seemingly relishing the switch to steeplechasing. He is a big horse and maybe doesn't take too much racing, so it will be interesting to see what the plan is now. Sire Collonges was eased down once his chance of victory had gone and the margin of defeat flatters the winner. Furthermore he was giving 8lb away to both the winner and third-placed White Star Line, who plugged on from the rear, producing a better effort than when pulled up behind Sire Collonges on his previous visit to the the track.
