Verdict

SO YOU THINK had been narrowly defeated in this 12 months ago by Rewilding following one of the races of the week but the Ballydoyle inmate made no mistake this time around. People have been quick to pick holes in him since his arrival in the northern hemisphere but he looked right on the money here as he thwarted Carlton House and a Royal winner. His performance last year could in part be put down to getting lit up early on by pacemaker Jan Vermeer - ironically ridden by Joseph O'Brien - but there were no such worries this time as he settled and travelled beautifully in third. Poised to swoop approaching the two-furlong marker, it was just a matter of when young O'Brien pushed the button as pacemaker Robin Hood folded and Big Blue Kitten came under heavy pressure. It was at this point that Ryan Moore produced a canny piece of race riding to deliver Carlton House away from the eventual winner on the inside of Big Blue Kitten in a bid to poach first run and catch O'Brien napping. He may have well hit the front for a stride or two at the distance but So You Think had too much in the tank and readily drew clear for a comfortable win. Aidan O'Brien felt he had the horse in the best shape ever since arriving into his care but retirement potentially beckons after a swansong in the Coral-Elipse next month. The runner-up did very little wrong despite being a little keen in the early stages and just bumped into a better one on the day. Godolphin's Farhh continues to progress and he could have even pinched second if he had not got stuck behind Planteur on the inside rail a furlong-and-a-half from home. Connections were optimistic he would make up into a top-class performer and his next race could be the King George back here next month. Reliable Man finished with a flurry after lobbing around at the back but the front two had gone beyond recall. Sri Putra got a little closer to So You Think compared to the 2011 renewal but still could not really land a blow as Colombian and Wigmore Hall finished side by side at the rear of the main pack having had a decent sight of the front rank as the race began in earnest. Godolphin's second string City Style can probably be given a little extra credit after he circumnavigated the field inside the final furlong. Mickael Barzelona went for a gap in between runners approaching the final furlong and once that closed his chance was totally compromised.
