There did not look an outstanding three-year-old candidate this season and the rear half of the big field was decimated by a horrible incident on the home bend as The Nile seemed to take a bad step in mid-pack and broke down. Arnold Lane, Fencing and Power were all badly hampered in the incident along with Miblish and Dragon Pulse while Saigon and Cogito both did well to avoid the stricken horse. Up front away from the trouble, MOST IMPROVED made the best of his way home under Kieren Fallon having sat in the perfect position for the first half of the race. He did get a little tired in the closing stages but he finally delivered on the track the promise he had shown at home to trainer Brian Meehan. Most Improved had enough left in the tank to hold off the fast-finishing Hermival and a mile and a quarter should not be an issue in the longer term. Hermival was forced to switch around Foxtrot Romeo and Gregorian inside the distance in a bid to get a clear run. The French raider continues to perform well on the whole at the top level and should get his head in front if his sights are lowered. Foxtrot Romeo and Gregorian both had every chance two furlongs out and kept on well enough while Born To Sea made up late ground in the same fashion as he did at the Curragh without ever threatening the lead. He is another who should win a race if tried in an easier grade. Gabrial took a big jump up after an impressive handicap win at Haydock last time and ran extremely well - he should add to his tally in Pattern company as he has a very useful turn of foot. Wrote had the worst of the draw out wide and scampered across to lead on the rail in the early stages. He used up plenty of energy with that move and was backtracking in the final two furlongs.
