A thrilling finish after almost four miles as BALTHAZAR KING held off the late thrust of gallant veteran A New Story. The winner was always in the leading trio and found plenty for pressure under Richard Johnson in the closing stages to make up for an unfortunate incident at the track back in December. A New Story was a past winner of this race and only just failed to add to his tally despite advancing years. Wedger Pardy had taken the wrong course in the above race back in December and put in a great effort to hit the frame. He led the field along for much of the way but could not go with the front two after the second last. He did hold on well to keep Sizing Australia at bay as the front four were clear of the chasing pack. There was a sad footnote as both Scotsirish and multiple cross-country winner Garde Champetre had to be put down.
