Verdict

BINOCULAR had shown his detemined side in December to get the better of Rock On Ruby but he was back to somewhere near his slick best here as he handed out a thrashing to Celestial Halo. It puts the 2010 Champion Hurdler back in the mix for the big one again at Cheltenham next month, for which he is now a best price of 8-1. His hurdling was fluent throughout and the way he cruised on to the quarters of Celestial Halo on the run to the last highlighted his superiority over that rival when on song - Binocular has beaten him six times now on the seven occasions they have clashed. AP McCoy reported afterwards that he let his mount quicken right to the line rather than just doing it narrowly on the bridle in a bid to give him a proper workout before the Festival. All things considered, this was an ideal preparation and it will be interesting to see if he can serve it up to Hurricane Fly. Celestial Halo set a decent clip from the start but was a sitting duck all the way up the home straight. He has enjoyed a fruitful campaign so far but just met a horse who is better than him when firing on all cylinders. Starluck was having his first run for David Arbuthnot and made a pleasing return to action. He was still on the coat tails of the front two at the second last before running out of puff. His problem remains being diffuclt to place over hurdles and connections might think of giving him another crack over fences. Nearby has joined Rebeccas Curtis but he did not show a great deal and started to labour three out while handicapper Lucaindubai was not up to this class.
