BIG BUCK'S equalled Bula's record of 13 consecutive victories over hurdles and completed a hat-trick in this race with another facile success as both Inglis Drever and Baracouda had done before him. The unrivalled staying hurdler of his generation had upwards of 24lbs in hand of his rivals and it must be doubtful whether Duc De Regniere, his nearest rival on the figures, is still worthy of his mark of 150. There were no undue alarms and his rider reported that he was never out of second gear. Big Buck's will follow the same route to the spring Festivals as in the previous two seasons which will see him return here over Christmas. Five Dream completed a one-two for the Champion Trainer with a plucky display, finishing second to a stablemate for a second consecutive contest. It's to be hoped that the handicapper ignores this run as he'd already gone up by 6lbs for his Exeter run and is thoroughly exposed over both fences and hurdles but that seems unlikely with three higher rated rivals behind. However, he is in good heart at present and can continue to pay his way. Pettifour - a Grade Two winner over hurdles - had returned from a lengthy absence to run a blinder in handicap company at Cheltenham and managed to avoid the 'bounce' factor. This was a solid run and it will be interesting to see if connections opt to send him back over fences in an attempt to take advantage of his lower mark in that sphere. Sparky May enjoyed a wonderful campaign for her small team last season and was still travelling quite well approaching the second last but didn't pick up when asked. She's entitled to come on for this reappearance, this was only her seventh run over obstacles and she's open to further improvement.
