A race that has had been won by some useful sorts in recent years albeit none that have had a significant impact on the Triumph Hurdle. That didn't stop punters supporting Ranjaan for the March feature the day before this race but that support looks likely to be short-lived as he failed to live up to market expectations. The Aga Khan bred 200,000 euro purchase out of Michael Delzangles stable in June appears to have plenty of scope and stayed on in a manner which suggests stamina could be his strong suit (a 14f winner on the Flat) but he will need to brush up on his jumping if he's to challenge for major honours and looks very much a work in progress. URBAIN DE SIVOLA had tried to run out on his debut but had then run well at Chepstow and took another step up the ladder with a smooth success. Making the running at a decent clip, he hurdled proficiently and quickened impressively clear of some highly regarded rivals in the straight to record an impressive success. Related to winners in France and out of a half-sister to Reve De Sivola, he looks to have a future and Chepstow's Finale Hurdle was mentioned as his possible next race with the Triumph the long-term aim for the season. Ardlui didn't appear to fulfil his ability on the Flat despite being rated in the mid-80s but had reportedly pleased his new connections at home. He was backed to beat the favourite but was ultimately well beaten having held every chance in the straight. He's entitled to improve for this experience and should stay further but it would be no great surprise were the decision taken to geld him sooner rather than later which would enable him to be back in time for the spring. Dark And Dangerous had stayed on well to win at Sandown on debut but was firmly put in his place here under a penalty and probably needs his sights lowered. Ya Hafed raced prominently for a long way and did enough to think that a small race could come his way for a yard that does well with its juveniles.
