Last year's successful connections were represented by Tactfully who had run out an impressive winner of a Nottingham maiden on debut but she never looked comfortable and failed to run her race; she may have simply had enough for the season. The honours went to COQUET who had shown ability in two polytrack maidens and produced a determined performance (her rider picked up a whip ban) on her turf debut as she stepped up in class. She is from a good family and one that progresses with age and should stay a mile and a half next season and connections are already eyeing up a tilt at the Oaks. Abishena had narrowly won a Leicester maiden on debut, the form of which looks useful, and she kept on dourly to only go down by half a length with a battling display. Her sire gets winners over a variety of distances so she may get a little further next season and can continue to improve. The proximity of the 80 rated Esentepe holds the form down to some degree as she was having her ninth start of the season and is thoroughly exposed. She has proved a tough sort though, running her best race when fourth to Maybe in the Chesham and connections will have been delighted to have picked up some Black Type and she has found a little improvement for the step up to a mile. Gifted Girl ran well for a long way but didn't look to get home on this first attempt over a mile on her first start since July. Connections had been considering the Fillies' Mile after her maiden win so this run was disappointing in light of that but her rider reported that she hung to her left and she may yet be able to raise her game next term. Graser is bred to stay further and stayed on stoutly from the rear of the field; her yard are not averse to travelling to Europe in search of Black Type and the best opportunities may lie on the continent for her next year when she should stay middle distances. The market suggested that a big run was expected from Oojooba who had impressed when winning her maiden (from Balady who run in the opener on the card) but she failed to pick up when asked. Her debut success came on soft ground and it's possible that she may need some cut to be seen at her best.
