Verdict

A race with a rich history with Sinndar, Hawk Wing, George Washington and Teofilo amongst recent winners. POWER bounced back from defeat in the Phoenix Stakes to add his name to the roll of honour with a narrow success from Dragon Pulse. Racing in midfield with stablemate David Livingston setting the gallop, Seamie Heffernan made his move approaching the two furlong pole and opened up enough of an advantage to repel the late challenge of the runner-up. After this race, Heffernan blamed himself for the colt's defeat at Leopardstown and thought that defeat had brought the colt on. Despite the dwindling margin of victory, Heffernan believes that he'll be better over a mile and connections will surely be keen to try their hand over that trip before the season's out. Whether he will be able to confirm his superiority over Dragon Pulse is another matter as Jessica Harrington's colt wasn't able to go with the winner when he quickened but was doing his best work at the finish under strong pressure and the Futurity Stakes winner looks sure to appreciate another furlong. David Livingston finished closer to the runner-up than he had last month and ran a solid race although he only just held on for third from Furner's Green. The son of first season sire Dylan Thomas had cut little ice in the Acomb on his second start and looked to be struggling when the tempo increased. However, he gradually found his stride and saw out the race really well and posted an encouraging effort. He will surely benefit from being stepped up in trip and, typically, connections have a wide range of entries to choose from and there should be more to come. The disappointment of the race was Talwar who never threatened to take a hand in the outcome and dropped out tamely. This was a step up in class for Jeremy Noseda's colt but this was surely not his running and he can be given another chance. Tough As Nails has been a credit to connections having never finished out of the frame, including in the Moyglare last time. This was his first attempt at seven and he did battle on bravely to finish a distant fifth but he may prove more effective down in class and trip.
