Verdict

An honestly run race where being close to it paid dividends and in many respects, early moves were to dictate what was to happen later on in the contest.

ARLEQUIN was drawn nine and both he and Our Joe Mac (eleven) were bounced quickly out of the gate in order to secure an early position and these tactics were to prove profitable come the finish.

Graham Gibbons' passage was not without an element of danger but the rider had the knowledge that his mount was likely to stay a little further than this and he was threaded through to the rail before being produced quite cleverly inside the distance.

Modun was the only runner in the frame to make progress from the rear. Ryan Moore didn't appear particularly happy throughout the race but he ran on stoutly without quite being good enough today. There is likely to be more to come from him on a more regulation track.

Our Joe Mac had his chance and while softer ground would have been better for him - this has to go down as his best effort of the season so far.

Mark Johnston has trained plenty of winners at this festival so it was no surprise to see Jutland attempt to take the race by the scruff of the neck. Silvestre De Sousa attempted to pinch the race from some way out and the four-year-old was guilty only of meeting better rivals this afternoon.

Prince Of Johanne held every chance whilst Bikini Babe, who is well treated in relation to some of her earlier form, plugged on for a strong ride.

King's Gambit ran as could be expected and probably needs the handicapper to give him a hand before he'll be winning in races of this nature again. Forte Dei Marmi made relentless headway from off the pace in the closing stages but was never nearer.

Spanish Duke looked somewhat unlucky as he travelled well but was never in a position to get a clear run on the leaders. All Action was ridden along at an early juncture and may not have acted on the track.
