Verdict

All eyes were on Overdose here but the 'Budapest Bullet' failed to fire. He was soon towards the head of affairs but could never dominate his field and was beaten approaching the final furlong. Connections blamed the quick ground but it's hard to be positive about his Royal Ascot prospects after this. In contrast SOLE POWER proved his Nunthorpe win of 2010 no fluke, seeing daylight towards the stands' rail but travelling strongly and running out an authoritative winner. He's clearly a Group One performer when given a strong gallop and quick ground. Kingsgate Native made good headway from the rear of the field to hold every chance inside the distance but the winner was going away at the line. It was a pleasing return but Sir Michael Stoute's charge has never been the easiest to predict. Prohibit ran a cracker and is another who needs an strong pace given his hold-up tactics. Borderlescott deserves great credit given he was racing away from the other principals but at nine isn't getting any better. Group Therapy dwelt and lost all chance at the stalls before finishing best of all. He's clearly heading towards peak form and could go well at a price in the King's Stand given his decent track form. This was better from Rose Blossom who travelled kindly in behind the leaders for a long way. Tangerine Trees and Hamish McGonagall both showed blistering speed but paid the price and were soundly beaten.
