Verdict

PROHIBIT was the subject of a big gamble just before the off from 12-1 down to 7-1 and the money proved to be spot on as he came from well off the pace with a strong burst between rivals to get up close home for a memorable success for Robert Cowell and Jim Crowley. He had run with credit all season in some decent sprints and he got his due reward after responding very well to Crowley's urgings two furlongs out to reel in Sweet Sanette and Overdose with a 100 yards to run. The latter was out of the stalls like a flash and showed much more than his effort in the Temple Stakes at Haydock. The slightly easier ground here looked to suit him better and he kept on stoutly. Hong Kong's Sweet Sanette showed even more dash and was right up on the pace from the start as well. She parted company with Jamie Spencer before the race so gets extra credit for running her race right to the line. Australian sprinter Star Witness came from off the speed along with Prohibit and looked to be travelling very well with a quarter of a mile to run. Pushed along to challenge by Steven Arnold he just didn't have quite the same burst as the winner and went down by half a length. He would surely have a good chance if turning out for Saturday's Golden Jubilee Stakes. Very few of the others got into the race. Iver Bridge Lad ran on for fifth place but never looked like threatening the front rank while the same statement applies to Kingsgate Native, who made some progress from mid-division without ever landing a serious blow. Rose Blossom showed her customary electric burst of speed from the stalls but she has not been at her best this season and soon dropped out of contention. Tangerine Trees showed pace for three furlongs but rapidly found reverse gear while Nunthorpe and Temple Stakes hero Sole Power could only find the one pace on this occasion and finished in the second wave. Swiss Diva was making her reappearance and ran better then her finishing position suggested after showing good speed for four furlongs.
