A bit of a boil over here as the well-touted Tea Cup was nearer last than first. She was fairly slowly into stride, and although they went a fast gallop, she never looked to be in a comfortable rhythm towards the back of the pack. To her credit she made some nice headway around halfway, but her effort flattened out and she was significantly eased when her chance had gone. Ultimately the win went the way of the very professional PRINCESS BANU, who seemed to have learnt plenty from her first run at Ripon. Drawn near the rails, Mick Channon's filly was bounced quickly out of the stalls and was soon dictating the tempo. She took them along at a very thorough pace, but whilst her rivals started to struggle two furlongs out she was still going strongly. She kicked on again in the last 150 yards and never really looked like getting caught. This was a very taking performance, but it should be said that she was the only one with experience in the line-up and that may have been a defining factor. Second home was Royal Blush who was the only horse to really make up decent ground from off the pace. She chased the winner in vain late on and made a very pleasing debut, especially as she had to be niggled along before halfway to go the pace; she'll relish an extra furlong next time. Third was Guru Girl who was never far off the pace, and she showed a very likeable attitude to run all the way to the line. Her yard are very much one to respect this season. Fourth was Dark Ages who showed good early pace but had to try and challenge between runners at the two furlong pole. That probably put her off slightly but she was one of a group of four who were well clear of the rest and she will have learnt an awful lot from the race. Further behind, Marie's Fantasy shaped with promise under hands and heels, whilst My Solitaire and Steady The Buffs also shaped with a degree of promise further back; each will be wiser next time.
