Verdict

A big gamble landed on course by Empowering who countered a poor draw with a very quick break and a canny decision by Joseph O'Brien to secure a decent position. According to Aidan O'Brien, the daughter of Encosta De Lago had been working well at home and had not really shown all of the gallops ability on the racecourse but she stays a mile well and that possibly had a part to play in the tactics. Kicked on at the top of the home turn, she put distance between herself and the field and kept on resolutely. She is entered in the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket and is likely to head there. On this evidence, she could even stay further. Wild Wind was easy to back beforehand. She tracked the leaders before becoming slightly outpaced at half way. She kept on well enough into second place albeit at a respectful distance.History Note was in an unpromising position as they turned in and did not necessarily enjoy the best of passages. She made significant headway into third place and gave the impression that this experience will not have been lost upon her. Manieree behaved in a recalcitrant manner at the start and appeared not to be too in love with the idea of loading into the stalls. She raced prominently and was far from disgraced in fourth. Seeharn was another to race prominently whilst Katla probably did not stay the trip and having been ridden conservatively, she will do better over shorter and on a softer surface.
