Verdict

A race that was stripped of some of its lustre as Cocozza had to be withdrawn after twice failing to stand up properly in the stalls. The fact that he was well backed beforehand suggested that a big run was anticipated but having been allowed one misdemeanour in the stalls and causing a substantial delay in the process, he was not going to be permitted another chance. DUNBOYNE EXPRESS was fully anticipated to win this as a consequence and despite some rumours that he may have needed this return, this was a pleasing enough effort. Held up off the early gallop, he was asked to close up with three furlongs to travel before making smooth headway to lead inside final furlong and take the race comfortably. From a formbook perspective, we learnt nothing new though he seems to have trained on into his three-year-old campaign. Exodus broke smartly from the stalls to lead before Whipless went on. He was the first to be pushed along, but to his credit he did stick on well to retake second place close home and on breeding, he looks the type who will prosper when sent up another half mile. Whipless ensured that they went along at a decent gallop. He had earned an official rating of 95 last term and despite having had four runs, he still showed some signs of immaturity - jumping a path in the early stages of the contest. He looks to have plenty of size about him and was not knocked about once his chance had gone.
