Verdict

SAM WINNER confirmed his prominence at the head of the Triumph Hurdle market with a solid display of hurdling to make a double for Paul Nicholls. Kept in mid-division, he took closer order with a spectacular jump at the fifth before leading two out and quickly putting the issue to bed. Paul Nicholls reported that he felt the ground was quick enough for him today and that while there is plenty to come for the future, he wouldn't be at his best on fast ground. He will be entered for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle in the event of slow ground obtaining and will be next seen out at the January meeting. Pullyourfingerout ran a blinder to be second. Always handy, he was travelling as well as the winner with two to jump but just did not have the class. He won't always be so unfortunate to run into such a smart prospect. He managed to reverse Ludlow form with Akula, who was far from disgraced at odds of 50/1. Red Sparky made a couple of errors though kept on for fourth. He didn't look the most natural of jumpers on this surface though slower conditions in his native Ireland might help. Pantxoa was a little scratchy at the start and having got into the race, he was unable to serve it up to the protagonists. A Media Luz had not seen the racecourse for 181 days and was very keen. She took herself into the lead at the second and Barry Geraghty realised that it would be futile to stop her. Dropping away quickly after the second last, it is to be hoped that she can leave behind this disappointing effort. Horatio Caine did not jump particularly well though is now eligible for handicaps.
