Verdict

The first running of this race over 5 furlongs was run at a good clip and went to a closer in Chamberlain Bridge who made it three wins from four starts on the turf track with a terrific ride from Jamie Theriot who did remarkably well to weave his way through the field having taken his mount back from the one box. The field broke well but the progressive Central City was quickly into stride and followed through by Stradivinsky and Bridgetown who were joined by some of the highest drawn as they attempted to become the first horses drawn nine or higher to win over this course and distance. The challengers loomed large into the turn with Bridgetown laying it down to Central City in the straight but the front runner dug deep and rallied to see off that challenge but he was no match for Chamberlain Bridge who ran on strongly to land the spoils in impressive fashion. Chamberlain Bridge had been settled back into about ninth having been short of room, just in behind favourite Silver Timber who looked to have the perfect position as they turned into the straight having moved through the field to fourth. Chamberlain Bridge was switched to the outside to challenge and fortune favoured him with a clean run through on the outside of Silver Timber whose run was halted by the weakening Bridgetown who had briefly taken the lead but the favourite didn't look an unlucky loser despite rallying to contest a photo for third. Central City deserves credit for running on bravely for second whilst Unzip Me finised well to pip Bridgetown, Silver Timber, Due Date Rose Catherine and California Flag for that third spot with just a head between each spot for those in behind the first two.
