Verdict

Winter Memories will go down as an unlucky loser in many quarters having met with serious interference which caused jockey Jose Lezcano to launch an objection against Garret Gomez but the stewards weren't long in declaring the result official. The outsider Don Lunas was the first to show from the inside draw but she was quickly joined by Fancy Point on her outside with Frankie Dettori settling Quiet Oasis in third with Together and Tale Untold further back in the field. Allure D'Amour tried to make up a lot of ground on the outside having been drawn in 14 with Winter Memories looking for room next to the rail as the field moved into the first turn. Garret Gomez took the opportunity to make his move around the outside of the leaders as they took the second turn and he gained the position on the track as they straightened for home to keep Winter Memories stuck in behind the weakening leaders and he kicked MORE THAN REAL to the line. That move certainly won the race and it has to be debateable as to whether the favourite would have run with a clear passage as Kathamandu closed her down to the line and only narrowly failed to get second but it certainly wasn't her jockey's finest hour. Together got out late to run on at the one pace to finish fifth and fare best of the European challengers with Quiet Oasis fading tamely and Tale Untold never able to land a blow.
