A fairly bizarre renewal where they might as well have started the race with a starter's pistol given the speed with which Herecomesthetruth and The Sawyer hared off into a clear lead. Indeed connections of Chaninbar may have preferred that as the habitual front-runner almost refused to race, eventually setting off some 30 lengths behind the main group. The drama continued with Mahogany Blaze unshipping his rider at the ditch. The temp steadied slightly down the hill with Herecomesthetruth in-front of The Sawyer, whilst Chaninbar made a gallant effort to catch up with the main group. Ultimately this developed into a four-horse race, as Cornas dropped away tamely having been well-backed before the race. I'msingingtheblues moved up to challenge for the lead with Somersby, Twist Magic and TCHICO POLOS all creeping closer from half-way. More drama then as Herecomesthetruth ran out at the fifth last fence. On the turn for home, Tchico Polos seemed to be struggling as he dropped to fourth, whilst Twist Magic was travelling very powerfully alongside Somersby. None of the leading three were fluent at the fourth last and Tchico Polos made some ground as Twist Magic seemed to drop back. However he winged the next and ran on again as Tchico Polos moved into the lead. Both jumped the last well, three lengths clear of Somersby who in turn had moved on from the tiring I'msingingtheblues. Interestingly Cornas was running on again into sixth but the race had passed him by at this point. In the last 100 yards it looked as if Twist Magic might pick up his younger stablemate as Noel Fehily drew him wide for a challenge but the line just came too soon. In conclusion: Job done for Tchico Polos who now probably heads to Ireland. He isn't top class (yet) but he jumps well and that should stand him in good stead for where he heads to next. It was a nice prep run for the Tingle Creek for Twist Magic; his jockey wasn't hard on him turning for home but he ran on really well when given a couple of smacks before the second last and may have even won were he asked to pick up earlier. I'msingingtheblues may prefer a less testing track/race, whilst connections of The Sawyer will be pleased with this first blow-out and they'll also be encouraged by the way he ran on again in the final half-mile.
